EPW - Eardley Norton, London (active 1762-1792), quarter repeating verge fusee, repeats on steel bell and has button at 6 to mute bell for "dumb" strike, depressing pendant activates repeat mechanism, 57mm, 18K OF original pair cases, the pierced and engraved inner case bearing Continental markings under bell with number matching mvt, two watch papers from Massachusetts watchmakers in unmarked outer case back, KWKS, signed WED with Roman numerals and outer Arabic 5-minute numbers, polished steel and blued original hands, the minute with gold hub, verge escapement, gilt mvt with pierced & engraved foliate scrolled balance cock, DES, signed raised gilt locking dust-cap, s#3453. Gross weight of assembled watch 89.0 dwt (138.4 g).
CONDITION:
Mvt: GRO, good balance motion, good escapement function, plates show near mint gilding, little oxide on steel components; dial perfect, scratch at 6; hands excellent; original outer case shows little wear, some MFS, a few very light dents or dings; button latch good; original inner case shows less wear, some MFS, occasional break in piercing, no dents or dings; bow & pendant original, little play in junction; good domed glass crystal. A very handsome example.
